Models Golf, Jetta, Scirocco have independent front suspension with telescopic MacPherson struts. The telescopic strut is a single assembly that includes a coil spring, a telescopic shock absorber and a thrust bearing. The telescopic suspension struts are bolted to the steering knuckles. Non-adjustable wheel hub bearings are pressed into the steering knuckle, which are the support for the hub and the drive shaft (pic. M:2).
The ball joint is attached with two bolts (until October 1974) or three rivets to the lower suspension arm, which is bolted to the body with rubber hinges.
On models with improved performance (engines 1.6 and injection 1.8) installed front anti-roll bar.
Drive shafts - unequal length, with internal and external joints of equal angular velocities (SHRUS).
After any work on the front suspension, check the adjustment (convergence and collapse) front wheels (see chapter "Steering").
Since the suspension design is constantly being improved, when purchasing shock absorbers, springs and other suspension parts, it is necessary to know the exact car model and identification number (VIN).
