Tool and equipment

In addition to the basic set of tools, you will need the following:

• Hydrometer for measuring the density of the coolant.
• Hydrometer for measuring the density of the battery electrolyte.
• Special belt or chain wrench for unscrewing the oil filter.
• Accurate tire pressure gauge - Ideally, this should be in the car at all times so that the tire pressure can be checked weekly.

It is very useful for owners of cars with automatic transmission to have a funnel for pouring oil into the transmission through the dipstick tube.

If work requires lifting the vehicle off the ground, secure lifting equipment such as a portable ramp or hydraulic jack with jack stands is required.
