Heater control
The heater control panel is located in the center of the dashboard. To gain access to the heater control unit, the radio receiver must be removed (see chapter "Optional equipment") or, if the receiver is not installed, a glove box or plug.
Disconnect the wire "masses" from the battery.
Pull the knobs and carefully wring out the lining of the heater control panel. Be careful, the cladding is attached only with spring clips.
If you have a radio, remove the handles and trim of the receiver. The factory-installed receiver is secured with two latches that must be pushed out to remove the receiver. The latches are accessed from below.
Remove the plug or glove box if the receiver is not installed.
Remove the two screws securing the heater control unit and slide it forward.
Three cables are attached to the heater control levers - to disconnect them, release the rim clips and unhook the bent ends of the cables from the levers.
The cables are replaced as a whole - together with the shells.
The heater tap cable can be easily disconnected from the heater tap in the engine compartment and pulled out through the bulkhead.
To disconnect the cable from the external heater damper, you need to remove the heater air intake frame, fixed to the rear shelf of the engine compartment with two screws or plastic buttons. If the frame was fastened with buttons, secure it with self-tapping screws when installing.
To disconnect the cable from the air distribution damper inside the heater, the heater must be removed and partially disassembled.
Heater - replacement (pic. E:7)
The heater is located in the passenger compartment under the dashboard. If a center console is installed, it must be removed before repairing the heater (see chapter "Body and body equipment").
Disconnect the lower radiator hose and drain the coolant as described above.
Remove the heater air intake frame located on the rear shelf of the engine compartment. If the frame is secured with plastic studs, secure the frame with self-tapping screws during subsequent installation.
Disconnect the cable from the external heater damper, then unhook the damper axle from the heater body and remove the damper. The blower motor can now be removed through the heater air intake.
Disconnect the cable from the heater valve in the engine compartment (faucet must be closed), then disconnect the hoses from the heater pipes on the rear bulkhead of the engine compartment.
Disconnect the heater control unit from the dashboard.
Release the two clips under the dashboard (one on each side), with which the heater is attached to the car body. To release the clip, you need to press the tab in its middle.
After that, the heater can be removed from under the dashboard along with cables and controls. On early models, air ducts are attached to the heater on both sides, which also need to be disconnected. Be careful when removing the nozzles from the seal in the baffle hole.
The heater is installed in the reverse order.
