Removing
1. Disconnect the wire "masses" from the battery, release the wire clamp and disconnect the electrical connector on the back of the generator (pic. D:4, D:5).
2. Loosen the shim bolts and bottom fixing bolt (fig.D:6), turn the alternator towards the engine and remove the drive belt from the pulley.
On 1.5, 1.6, and 1.8 liter engines, the generator is attached with a hexagon socket bolt, which is accessed through a hole in the timing belt cover after removing the rubber plug.
3. Turn out a bolt of an adjusting lath from a cover of the generator, then turn out a long bolt of the lower fastening and remove the generator. Early models have an elastic mount with rubber grommets on both sides of the alternator brackets. If the grommets are damaged, replace them.
Installation
Install the generator in the reverse order of removal. Adjust drive belt tension (see chapter "Vehicle maintenance work").
