- Pliers for removing and installing retaining rings - for disassembling gearbox assemblies.
- Lifting device - to hold the engine on weight when removing the gearbox.
- Puller - for removing and installing gearbox bearings.
- Technological plate - for removing the input shaft and gearbox bearing type 084 (see text).
- A set of soft metal drifts and mandrels - for removing shafts and bushings.
- fixture (mandrel) for centering the clutch - for precise alignment of the clutch disc in relation to the flywheel and crankshaft (see section "Clutch").
All numbers of tools and fixtures are given in accordance with the nomenclature of the VW tool (see section "Gearbox repair"). Use only special tools to repair the transmission.
Some transmission parts must be heated in an oil bath before installation. An oil bath can be prepared by heating engine oil on a gas stove in a metal container, such as an old frying pan. To heat the parts, you will also need a thermometer with the appropriate temperature measurement range.
WARNING: Be extremely careful when heating parts.
