Replacing the plastic cladding

If only the plastic coating is damaged, it can be replaced. But if the bumper itself is also deformed, there is only a complete assembly as a replacement.

Remove bumper.

In the model "Golf" remove the front license plate holder.

Remove old lining.

The workshop uses a press and special tools to install the new plastic cladding.

Soak the side clamps in soapy water for approx. 5 minutes.

Screw the bolt into the clamped part with 3-4 thread screws.

Hit the clamped part with a plastic hammer (up to reinforcing ribs in plastic coating). Do not hit the bolt while doing this.

Hold the workpiece to be clamped with pliers. Tighten bolt at the same time to 5 Nm. Due to this, the part is unclenched like a dowel, and firmly fixed.

Before pressing on the coating, heat the plastic with a hairdryer or a fan heater.

Starting from the middle of the buffer, without exception, all the fixing tabs of the cover must enter and lock into the corresponding holes in the steel support.
