In a machine with a suction diesel engine, floating caliper disc brakes are installed. This means that the bracket is placed movably, it is floating. In the previous years of production of machines, floating brackets were mounted, along with the company ATE, by the company "Girling" (see illustrations).
In the model "Golf GTD" mounted so-called cam disc brakes with floating calipers. Similarly, the movable bracket in this case looks like a clenched fist.
Piston in cylinder body (in brake mechanisms of both variants) presses on the inner lining towards the brake disc, due to which the cylinder body moves; the brake pad on the other side also moves towards the disc.
Instruction. When it rains, the exposed brake disc is flushed with water, which reduces the braking effect. For rear drum brakes, this is even more true. The good, located between the brake discs and pads, should evaporate. In winter, when a lot of salt is scattered on the roads, this phenomenon intensifies. Therefore, after water and salt "baths" The brakes should be dried periodically by lightly depressing the pedal while driving. Before parking for the night, drive a few tens of meters, braking to remove moisture from the brakes.
Instruction. In disc brakes with a floating caliper, after braking, the lining only moves back after a few meters of travel. Therefore, the front wheels, which have floating caliper disc brakes, are fully released only after a few meters of travel. Traces of the worn lining can be found on the wheel rims in the form of a black powder. Over time, this powder adheres strongly to surfaces, so wheel rims (and especially from light metal) should be cleaned regularly with a brush and, if necessary, a cleaning agent should be used.
