Spin each wheel once.
Remove foreign bodies with a narrow screwdriver (e.g. small stones) from the protector. but do not damage the tyres.
The tire tread pattern must have a depth of at least 1 mm across its entire width.
Elevations in the grooves of the tread, located transversely to the running surface, serve to control abrasion. These protrusions are placed at equal distances from each other. On the side surface they are marked with the letters TWI.
If these elevations are at the same height as the tread pattern, tire replacement can no longer be delayed. With a constant decrease in tread depth, wet driving is significantly impaired, especially if wide tires are installed.
By the type of tire tread wear, something can be established. But read about it in the next section.
Tire tread pattern
Front tires worn on the outside are indicative of very fast driving on curved tracks. It is necessary either to swap the right and left wheels or change the front wheels to the rear.
A tread worn on one side may indicate incorrect wheel alignment, especially if the tire is worn in an oblique direction.
Heavy abrasion in the middle of the profile indicates very high air pressure in the tire. This effect can be especially clearly observed on the rear wheels, which are usually less loaded than the front ones.
If both outer edges of the tire are worn more than the middle, then you have been driving with very low air pressure in the tires for a long time.
Dimples in the tire profile, located at regular intervals, indicate that the shock absorber has a defect.
If unequal wear is found only in certain places, then the wheel is out of balance.
If in one place traces of strong abrasion of the profile are visible, this is the result of braking with a locked wheel.
How durable are tires
Tire wear depends less on their brand, and more on the nature of the ride. If the wheels were not interchanged, then we can assume that the front wheels will travel 70,000-100,000 km, and the rear wheels - 100,000-140,000 km. Since the front wheels must drive the car, turn it and withstand the main loads during braking, they wear out earlier than the rear ones. Therefore, it is recommended to change the wheels among themselves on any one side, that is, while maintaining their previous direction of rotation.
