4 1/2 J x 13 H2 ET 45, 5 J x 13 H2 ET 45 or 5 1/2 J x 13 H2 ET 38.
These letters and numbers mean the following:
- 4 1/2, 5, 5 1/2 - rim width in inches, measured at the side flange of the rim transversely to the plane of rotation of the wheel.
- J - designation of the height of the side flange of the wheel rim.
- x - designation of a deep rim.
- 13 - rim diameter in inches.
- H2 - designation of a double rim. Two tuberculate protrusions inside the rim under side load (abrupt movement on a curved track at low air pressure) prevent the tire from slipping off the rim flange.
- ET 38, ET 45 - pressing depth 38 or 45 mm. Drawing (first) explains this dimension. These standard designations only indicate the main dimensions of the rims, but not specific vehicle data, such as the number of holes for mounting a wheel or the diameter of the circle of holes.
Tire and rim combinations
The following tire and rim combinations are allowed on models "Golf" And "Jetta":
Tires | Rims | Depth of pressing, mm | Model |
145 SR13 | 4 1/2 J x 13 | 15 | "Golf", 1.5 l, 37 kW |
155 SR13 | 4 1/2 J x 13 | 15 | "Golf", 1.5 l, 37 kW |
155 SR13 | 5 J x 13 | 45 | All |
175/70 SR13 | 5 J x 13 | 15 | "Golf"/"Jetta", 1.6 l, 40 kW |
175/70 SR13 | 5 1/2 J x 13 | 45 | "Golf GTD", 51 kW |
What rims to use
In cars "Golf" And "Jetta" many original rims of the company can be used "Volkswagen". In early 1981, these models were fitted with newly designed light alloy wheels with 9, 16 or 24 spokes. In the model "Sirocco" production after April 1981 steel rims borrowed from "trade wind", which appeared shortly before. From August 1985 models "Golf" And "Jetta" equipped with smooth steel rims. All these "new" steel and light alloy wheels should not be installed on vehicles with floating caliper disc brakes.
