Thermostat — design description

In simpler terms, the thermostat determines whether the water in the radiator should be cooled or not. Therefore, it determines in which direction the coolant should circulate: "small" or by "big" circulation circuit. (See also section "How cooling works".) The thermostat directs the flow of coolant depending on the temperature of the cooling water. This is done by means of a sleeve filled with a special compound and a valve. When the coolant is heated, the composition softens. it expands and opens the valve. When the coolant temperature rises, the thermostat directs fluid flow to the radiator. If, on the contrary, the temperature drops, the spring presses on the valve in the direction "Zu" (locking), the liquid flow is directed in a small circle until the operating temperature is established again.

Instruction. If on the way, due to a damaged thermostat in the engine, the temperature rises, then only towing or removing the thermostat will help right there. in place. If you decide to remove, then first wait until the temperature of the coolant drops. To collect the latter, you need a container.
