For this reason, during break-in, you should:
- do not give full throttle;
- take into account the recommendations for choosing speeds (when the engine is running, warm); if the engine is cold, shift up later:
Manual Transmission | |
1st gear | 30 km/h |
2nd gear | 55 km/h |
3rd gear | 80 km/h |
4th gear | 110 km/h |
5/E gear | 120 km/h |
Automatic transmission | |
1 | 45 km/h |
2 | 80 km/h |
3 | 115 km/h |
In the interval of travel from 1000 km to 1500 km, the engine should be gradually loaded up to the maximum speed and to the maximum permissible speed.
Engine durability
Diesel engine models "Golf"/"Jetta", as a rule, withstands 100.000-130.000 km.
Often the engine is forced to overcome great difficulties at start-up at low temperatures. The consequence is a strong wear of the working surface of the cylinder in the area of the top dead center. The working surface in this area acquires a deep annular development. This development does not allow the piston ring to maintain the necessary compression in the combustion chamber when starting the engine. During the compression period, the air in the combustion chamber does not become hot enough, as a result of which the injected diesel fuel cannot ignite, despite the correct condition of the preheating system. Towing with another vehicle is possible when the engine is given a higher starting RPM for enough compression to self-ignite. However, it is unlikely that the driver of a diesel car will be able to constantly resort to towing on cold days. Then the engine will have to be replaced. See section "Engine damage".
