In most cases, the driveshaft joints can suddenly fail, but from time to time these phenomena can come and go. "Quiet phase" can last for days or miles.
Characteristic are rhythmic noises, a click when pressing and releasing the accelerator pedal. If these sounds change depending on the turn of the steered wheels, then the hinge on the side of the wheel is defective.
Vibrations and trembling movements in the steering wheel when turning the wheels also indicate that the outer joint is damaged.
If a crackling sound is heard when starting from a place with the wheels turned out, then this sound does not necessarily come from the axle shaft joint, it may be due to the wheel bearings.
