2. Raise the front of the car and put it on stands. Remove front wheel (wheels).
External ball joint
3. If the outer tie rod end ball joint is replaced, «it is necessary to measure the length of the thread coming out from under the locknut. Record this value, then loosen the locknut (photo 9.9)
4. Loosen the ball joint nut (photo 9.10). Using the tensioner, disconnect the hinge from the arm of the return mechanism (photo 9.11). After disconnecting the outer ball joint from the return mechanism, it can be unscrewed from the tie rod.
5. The new hinge is screwed onto the rod until the length of the thread coming out from under the lock nut is equal to (after hinge) length measured before disassembly.
Left tie rod included
6. To remove the left tie rod assembly, remove the clips from the steering gear housing, then remove the housing along the tie rod to expose the inner ball joint (photo 9.12).
7. Indicate on the tribe (better than quick dry paint) the place to which the inner ball joint is bolted. This designation will be necessary when installing a new hinge.
8. Loosen the locknut of the inner joint, then unscrew the rod from the steering gear tribe. You can then remove the steering gear cover from the inner tie rod end. Replace the casing with a new one if it is damaged or out of order.
9. Before screwing a new rod onto the pinion, it is necessary to first adjust its length by 379 mm from the middle of the outer hinge housing to the end of the inner hinge. Preliminary adjustment is carried out by screwing or unscrewing the external ball joint on the rod.
Installation
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order to dismantling. In this case, it is necessary to pay attention to several features of dismantling.
11. Remove the old blocking fluid from the steering rack and from the steel tie rod if it needs to be reinstalled. Lubricate the two threads of the connection with fresh blocking fluid before mounting.
12. Before installing and pulling the casing onto the rod, grease the surfaces of the holes on both sides.
13 Lever (cravings) it is necessary to screw onto the pinion until it reaches the place indicated by the paint. In this place it must be blocked with a lock nut.
14. Put on the casing and clamps.
15. Connect the outer hinge to the return mechanism and tighten the new self-tightening nut with a torque of 35 Nm.
Right tie rod included
16. Since the length of this rod is not adjustable, it is necessary to follow the steps described in paragraphs 7.2-7.15, excluding paragraph 7.9. When installing old ball joints on the steering rod, always use new lock nuts 17. After installation, it is necessary to adjust the toe of the front wheels.
