Oil containers must bear the following markings, along with additional other markings:
- Gas engine "API Service SF or SG"
- diesel engine "API Service CE or CD"
- Turbocharged diesel engine "API Service CD"
Motor oils are sorted by their viscosity. The choice of oil grade for your engine depends on the climatic conditions of the area where it is used.
Motor oils by viscosity
A - universal oil; B - energy-saving oil; C - single grade oil
When choosing engine oil, be guided by the temperature scale. Since the temperature ranges of different grades of oils overlap, slight fluctuations in external temperature do not affect their performance. If refueling is necessary, mixing oils with different viscosities is allowed.
When using SAE 10W or SAE 5W-30 engine oil, avoid driving at high speeds for extended periods if the outside temperature exceeds the above limits.
Identification designation of engine oil
Select an oil type for your vehicle that meets the American Petroleum Institute's specifications (API). The so-called identification pointer (designation) applied additionally at the top of the container to assist in selecting the required type of oil.
Engine oil designation
1 - The upper designation indicates that the quality of the oil meets the API specifications.
2 - The central designation indicates that the oil ps viscosity meets SAE standards.
3 - The lower designation indicates that the oil has fuel-saving properties.
Engine oil additives
Volkswagen does not recommend the use of oil additives to avoid voiding the warranty.
