Attention: To avoid loss of control of the vehicle with new tires installed, during the first 160 kilometers, drive at low speeds, being extra careful.
Tire life
The life of your vehicle's tires depends mainly on the following factors.
Tire pressure
The required cold tire inflation pressure is stamped on the inside of the fuel filler flap or on the door frame latch on the driver's side
Attention: Failure to comply with the required tire pressure leads to increased wear and tear, adversely affects driving, which can ultimately lead to injury.
Failure to properly inflate tires can also cause them to deflate unexpectedly, resulting in an accident and injury.
Low tire pressure contributes to increased fuel consumption, which leads to increased environmental pollution.
Tire pressure should be checked at least once a month and always before a long trip.
Tire pressure is an extremely important factor, especially when driving at higher speeds.
Always check pressure with cold tyres. If the tires are warm, the tire pressure will be higher. Do not reduce pressure in warm tires.
Don't forget to check the spare wheel. The air pressure value in the tire chamber is marked on the side surface of the tire.
Check tire pressure with an accurate pressure gauge. Do not exceed the maximum pressure in the studs, the value of which is marked on their side surfaces (air pressure in the chamber of a cold tire, the pressure in the tires of a car that has been stationary for at least 3 hours or has traveled no more than 1 km).
After checking the tire pressure, remember to replace the valve stem caps.
driving techniques
Fast turns, increased acceleration, hard braking of the car contribute to accelerated tire wear.
Wheel balancing
When turning the car, the wheels are balanced. However, various factors during the movement of the car lead to imbalance of the wheels, a sign of which is the presence of steering vibration. Due to the fact that unbalanced wheels can cause wear to the steering mechanism, suspension and tires, it is necessary to re-balance. After installing a new or old repaired tire, it is imperative to balance the wheel.
Wrong wheel alignment
Incorrect wheel alignment leads to increased and uneven tire wear, which adversely affects vehicle safety. If a tire shows signs of wear, contact your Volkswagen dealer.
Tire wear
Your vehicle's original tires have built-in tire wear indicators. They are located in the lower part of the tread groove and are strips approximately 12 mm in size, when the tread pattern is worn down to a depth of 1.6 mm. Depending on the manufacturer, a wheel tire can have six to eight indicators located around its circumference.
Tire side markings (for example, in the form of a triangle. or letters "TWI") show the location of the wear indicators.
If indicators appear in two or more adjacent grooves, the tires must be replaced. However, it is not recommended to allow tires to wear to this extent. Worn tires do not provide sufficient grip on the road surface, which is still significantly lower on wet roads.
Caution: Do not drive with tires that are worn or have cuts or damage to avoid unexpected flat tires resulting in loss of control and personal injury.
Since worn tires do not provide adequate traction on wet road surfaces, the vehicle may be subject to hydroplaning (wheel slip during braking). It is highly recommended to replace tires when the remaining tread depth reaches 3 mm.
Tire swap
If the front tires are more worn than the rear tires, it is recommended to swap them as shown in the figure. As a result, all tires will have approximately the same service life.
Tires must only be changed on one side of the vehicle.
Tires can only be diagonally rotated if they are subject to unusual wear, such as edge wear. In case of doubt, consult your Volkswagen dealer.
Upon completion of the tire rotation, adjust the pressure in the chambers and tighten the wheel mounting bolts in a diagonal way with a torque of 110 Nm set for them.
Changing wheels and tires
Factory-approved wheels and tires are specially matched to your vehicle and match its traction and handling characteristics in many ways.
- Installing and repairing tires requires special knowledge and tools. It is necessary that this kind of work be carried out by a specialist who is provided with special tools and can carry out the necessary examination.
Your Volkswagen dealer has a large selection of spare tires and wheels.
- For safety reasons, tires must be replaced in pairs. Tires with a deeper tread must always be fitted to the front wheels.
- Never install previously used tires if you do not know why they were removed.
- When replacing a tubeless tire, be sure to install a new valve guard. Tire repairs should only be carried out by a specialist.
- For maximum safety and the best driving experience, be sure to purchase replacement radial tires that have the same specifications in terms of tire size, construction, load capacity, speed, tread pattern, tread depth, etc.
Make sure that the new tires also meet the specifications stamped on the inside of the fuel filler shutter or on the driver's side door frame latch.
