The fluid reservoir is located in the engine compartment next to the battery. Refueling of the steering gear is carried out with lubricating oil for hydraulic systems VWN G 002 000. For normal operation of the steering gear, it is necessary to strictly maintain the required level of working fluid in the tank.
The power steering fluid level should be checked regularly on a scheduled basis with the engine running and wheels straight ahead.
The liquid level must be within the area limited by the marks "max" And "min". If the fluid level is below the mark "min", have a Volkswagen dealer inspect the power steering system. Simply topping up the hydraulic fluid is not sufficient in this case.
Note: If there is not enough hydraulic fluid in the system, the pump and other components may be damaged, since the hydraulic fluid also acts as a lubricant.
Avoid using brake fluid instead of hydraulic fluid as this may cause damage to the power steering system.
If there is a problem with the power steering system or if the engine does not run (e.g. a towed car), you still have the ability to steer the car, but for this you will need to make much more effort.
