Winter tires or, as they are sometimes called, "snow tires" provide maximum adhesion to the road surface in slush.
If your Volkswagen is equipped with high performance tires (at the end of the tire there is a code letter H or V) and you often drive in icy or snowy conditions, it is necessary to install universal tires for use in winter. Consult your Volkswagen dealer about this.
When installing tires for winter use, pay attention to the following:
- It is necessary to install only tires for use in winter with a radial ply. Contact your Volkswagen dealer to determine the correct tire size.
- Winter tires must be fitted to all four wheels
- Due to the specific design characteristics of tires (M+S) radial tires, they must be inflated 0.2 bar above the set cold inflation pressure for conventional radial tires. Anyway, do not exceed the maximum allowable pressure, the value of which is marked on the side of the tire.
- Tires for use in winter do not fully meet the requirements for them if the tread depth is less than 4 mm.
Caution: It is very dangerous to use tires with excessive tread and pin wear. In this case, they must be replaced immediately.
Never fit tires of different designs together, such as a steel cord radial tire with a radial beveled tire, etc. The simultaneous use of different types of tires will adversely affect the vehicle's directional stability, may lead to loss of control over the vehicle and, as a result, injury to passengers.
- Tires for winter use with studs should be run at moderate speeds initially to allow time for stud adjustment.
Do not drive with winter tires installed for extended periods of time at high speeds.
Tires for use in winter are made from a softened rubber compound, have a deeper tread pattern and therefore provide a low-speed level. When used on dry road surfaces, the grip of such tires and the service life are significantly reduced.
- When using all-terrain or winter tires, strictly adhere to the speed limits for them.
Permissible speed values according to the letter code:
Q - up to 160 km / h
T - up to 190 km / h
H - up to 210 km / h
Attention: The maximum speed level of tires for use in winter is less than the maximum speed that your vehicle can reach.
Exceeding the maximum allowable speed will damage the tire, and this, in turn, will result in loss of control of the vehicle and injury to passengers.
Do not exceed the permitted speed limits and prepare your vehicle for real road conditions.
Chains for use on snowy roads
This kind of chain can only be used on the front wheels.
Do not use chains on 185/55 R15 tires mounted on 6J 15 rims.
Use only fine pitch chains with no more than 15 mm protrusion above the tread and sidewalls. When the tensioner is engaged, the wheels with the chains installed on them must rotate freely in any position of the steering wheel to avoid damage to the body, axle or brake components. Driving the car must be carried out at low speeds, strictly following the operating instructions of the chain manufacturer.
Chains may not be used on the spare wheel. If there is no snow on the roadway, remove the chains. Otherwise, they may be damaged and cause a deterioration in the vehicle's directional stability.
