The engine and gearbox are placed in front across the car, the drive is transmitted to the front wheels. The mechanics have been upgraded to increase net power and reduce fuel consumption.
Like early models, the M-2 is popular for its fuel economy, reliability and ride comfort.
Lifting and towing
The jack supplied in the tool kit by the manufacturer, if not provided with a stand, should only be used when changing a wheel on the road.
This is a jack type "half-scissor". The handbrake must be checked and applied before using the jack. The vehicle may only be lifted on a firm, level surface. If the base is not solid, place a large board under the jack stand to provide additional support.
Place supports under the wheel on the opposite side of the vehicle from the one being lifted. Using the tool supplied by VW, remove the wheel cover where necessary, then loosen the wheel bolts a half turn. Place the jack arm under the sill reinforcement as close as possible to the wheel to be changed (photo 0.1 and photo 0.2). Rotate the jack handle until its base touches the ground directly below the threshold. Once again check the installation of the jack and continue to rotate the handle until the wheel touches the base. Loosen the wheel bolt and remove the wheel Place the spare wheel on the wheel hub trunnion, fit and tighten the bolts crosswise.
Lower the jack and tighten the bolts to the end. Fasten the wheel cap. Remove the support from under the wheel, remove the tool kit, jack and wheel in the trunk.
When raising the vehicle with a pole jack or jack type "frog" it is necessary to place a jack under the floor reinforcement by an employee for this purpose (photo 0.3). Caution: Never raise the vehicle by placing a jack under the suspension or axle components, oil sump or transmission. These elements can be supported, for example, during the replacement of engine mount brackets, but the entire vehicle should never be lifted on them.
Towing
Towing hooks mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle (photo 0.4 and photo 0.5).
The front hook is closed with a plastic cover. To open the towing hook, you need to squeeze the cover and at the same time pull it forward.
The tow rope must not be tied to any other element. It is better to use a rope to reduce tension in both vehicles. This may be a synthetic fiber rope or a rope with an elastic connector.
The following precautions must be observed during towing:
A) Turn the ignition key in the towed vehicle to unlock the steering wheel.
b) Remember, when the engine is not running, the brake boost does not work. Therefore, you need to press the brake pedal harder to get the same braking effect.
V) Models equipped with a power steering system will require additional force to turn the steering wheel when the engine is not running.
G) On vehicles with automatic transmission, set the gearshift lever to the position "N". Since the front wheels are not raised off the ground, do not tow the vehicle faster than 45 km/h or further than 45 km. For long distances, the vehicle must be transported on two wheels with the front wheels raised. When the engine is not running, the gear oil pump does not operate and the gear is not sufficiently lubricated. Towing a car with automatic transmission when the rear wheels are raised and the front wheels are rolling is unacceptable In reverse gear, a maximum speed of 30 km / h can be reached. If the vehicle is towed at a speed of 60 km/h, the transmission system will be forced to rotate at a very high speed for which it is not adapted, which will cause damage to the transmission mechanism
d) Before starting towing, turn the key to the ignition position so that you can turn on the stop lights, turn indicators, and "wipers" and sound signal.
Purchase of spare parts
Spare parts are available from VW workshops, other workshops and auto parts stores, and auto parts wholesalers.
To be sure you bought the part you need. you need to specify the engine number and chassis of the car or. if possible, bring an old part for identification.
It is best to buy spare parts from an authorized company that sells original spare parts. It is much more reliable to buy a genuine spare part, as it will pay off more than one cut due to its durability. Oil filters, spark plugs, light bulbs, timing belts, V-belts, oils and greases, tires, paints, spatula, etc. Volkswagen is world renowned.
Vehicle identification numbers
Vehicle Identification Numbers are very important when ordering parts or obtaining vehicle information The vehicle identification plate is located in the engine chamber on the right side.
The chassis number is located in the engine chamber on the partition separating the engine from the passenger compartment (under front glass).
The engine number in the 1.05 and 1.3L models is located on the cylinder block near the alternator bracket.
The engine number in the 1.6 and 1.8 liter models is located on the left side of the cylinder block.
These numbers must be identified and recorded by the owner of the car so that they can be used if necessary (e.g. in case of car theft).
