Checking the oil level
On manual transmissions with a reduction gear, the oil does not need to be checked.
On an automatic transmission, the oil level in the gearbox also does not need to be checked. However, it is mandatory to check the fluid level for automatic transmissions (JAKP) in the torque converter according to the maintenance schedule.
Vehicles must be parked on a level surface to obtain relatively accurate readings.
Check the level of JAKP only when it is warm (JAKP heats up after the car has traveled a distance of 10 kilometers). If the liquid is cold or too hot, the reading will be inaccurate. It is necessary to run the engine in idle mode.
Attention: Before checking the LAC level, set the switch lever to the position "R", and the car with the parking brake.
Checking the LAC level is a potentially dangerous procedure because it must be done with the engine running. Please read all necessary safety precautions carefully before attempting to test your JAKP level.
To check the LAC level, remove the dipstick, wipe it dry with a clean, lint-free cloth, and reinstall it. Then, once again, remove the dipstick and take readings of the JAKP level, which should be within the area limited by two marks. If the JAKP level is below the mark "Min", contact your Volkswagen dealer immediately to determine the cause of the increased consumption. A simple filling of JAKP in this case is not enough.
Changing gear oils
There is no need to change the oil on a manual transmission with a reduction gear. On automatic transmissions, it is also not necessary to check the oil level in the gearbox. However, the JAKP in the transmission must be replaced without fail in accordance with the maintenance schedule.
Due to the great difficulties associated with the recycling of used oil (the need for special tools and high-quality expertise) it is recommended to have the JAKP replaced by a Volkswagen dealer.
Note: Do not tow the vehicle or start the engine without any lubricant or automatic transmission.
Do not add any additives to transmission fluids.
