Checking the brake fluid level

For normal operation of the brake system, it is necessary that the level of the brake fluid is within the prescribed limits. The fluid level in the tank should always be between the MAX and MIN·marks. The fluid level may drop slightly after a while due to the automatic adjustment of the brake pads. This should not be cause for concern.

When the brake fluid level drops below the MIN·mark, the brake warning light will come on. In this case, stop driving immediately. For a comprehensive check of the brake system, to find the cause of the brake fluid leak and repair it, contact a Volkswagen dealer or a specialist workshop.

The brake system warning light comes on to warn of a low brake fluid level in the reservoir. Contact your Volkswagen dealer immediately.

Brake Fluid Replacement

Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. If the water content in the brake fluid is too high, this can lead to corrosion of the brake system after a while. The boiling point of the brake fluid will also drop significantly. That is why it is necessary to change the brake fluid every two years.

Caution: If the brake fluid is too old and the brake system is subjected to heavy use, vapor lock may form in the system itself, resulting in reduced brake performance and vehicle safety.

Use only DOT4 brake fluid that meets SAE J 1703 specifications.

To avoid corrosion of brake system components, do not add or mix DOTS Silicone Brake Fluid with your vehicle's brake fluid. This kind of corrosion can lead to the failure of the brake system.

Brake fluid is poisonous. Therefore, it should be stored in special closed containers out of the reach of children. It must also be remembered that brake fluid corrodes varnish and painted surfaces of the car.

Due to the difficulty of disposing of brake fluid (the need for special tools and high-quality expertise) We recommend that you have the brake fluid replaced by a Volkswagen dealer.

It is recommended to replace the brake fluid during vehicle maintenance.
