Disassembly
To remove the camshaft when the engine is in the car, you must first perform the following steps:
1. Remove top distribution cover and valve cover.
2. Then remove the timing belt from the camshaft gear.
Attention: It must be remembered that distribution signs must be installed before removing the distribution belt. This will greatly facilitate installation. Since it is not necessary to turn the crankshaft or the intermediate shaft during the removal and installation of the camshaft, it is enough later to set only the sign on the camshaft gear in the correct position and put on the belt.
3. Remove the camshaft gear.
4. To remove covers of loose leaves of a camshaft. They must be put back in the same way and in the same sequence. They are numbered (photo 1.142), but you can make your own designations by stuffing dots on the covers. The first cover is closest to the timing gear.
Attention: The bearing caps must be gradually unscrewed crosswise in the following sequence: 5-1, 3. Then the covers 2 and 4 until the camshaft rises under the influence of the pressure of the valve springs.
When the covers are unscrewed, they must be removed and then the camshaft can be removed. The front seal will be removed along with the shaft.
5. The valve lifters are now open and can be removed if necessary, for example, during head disassembly (photo 1.143). Remove each pusher cup in turn, then pry up the adjusting plate using a small screwdriver and remove it from the cup. On the reverse side of the plate its thickness is written (e.g. 3.75). After recording the thickness of the plate, the number of the cylinder and valve, where it was taken from, it is necessary to insert it into the same glass with the inscription down. During installation, the glasses must return to their holes. Therefore, a container is needed for each valve assembly and a pusher cup with an adjusting plate. Capacities can be designated from 1 to 8.
6. Check the camshaft.
Installation
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order to dismantling.
