Fuel tank

For safety reasons, the removal of the tank must always be done with the vehicle parked in a well-ventilated area.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative pole of the battery.

2. Use the fuel pump to empty the fuel tank (the tank does not have a drain plug).

3. Raise the butt cover in the trunk, then unscrew the round nut of the fuel level sensor.

4. Remove the electrical plug from the socket on the sensor. Then disconnect the flexible fuel supply pipes (to the fuel pump) and fuel return (from the fuel sump).

5. Block the front wheels with wedges and use a jack to raise the rear of the vehicle. Remove the right rear wheel.

6. Disconnect the flexible air outlet pipe from the fitting on the neck of the fuel tank funnel (pic. 3.6).



7. Disconnect the flexible air outlet pipe 5, which connects the tank with the funnel, and disconnect the air outlet tube.


8. Disconnect the rubber cuff from the mouth of the fuel funnel, protected by a large spring ring in the shape of the letter C.

9. Support the fuel pump with a mobile jack and a wooden block, then unscrew the fixing bolts, disconnect the support belts 1 (pic. 3.6) and lower the tank onto the canvas. On gTI models, you will also need to remove the side protection plate. Pay attention to the disconnection of the wire to ground near the fuel funnel and the nuts securing the tank to the body from the side of the fuel funnel neck.

10. If it is necessary to remove the surge tank 14, unscrew the fixing bolts and remove it from the wing bend

11. If the fuel pump is contaminated with sediment and water, remove the fuel level sensor and flush the tank with clean fuel. If the tank is damaged or leaking. it can only be repaired by a specialist or replaced with a new one.

12. The tank is installed in the reverse order of removal. Please note that rubber pads are installed on the support straps. Elastic pipes must be installed so that they do not bend.
