Set the heater control knob to position «heating» - this is very important, because otherwise not all the liquid will merge. Remove the cap from the expansion tank. Drain the fluid from the system by disconnecting the lower pipes from the radiator.
To avoid the formation of air pockets during the filling of the system, it is necessary to do the following.
Connect the lower hoses to the radiator, pour liquid into the expansion tank up to the mark «max» (pic. 101).
Start the engine and leave it running until the fan comes on (thermostat valve should open).
Check coolant level, top up if necessary. At operating temperature, the liquid level should slightly overlap the mark «max», on a cold engine - be between «min» and «max».
At the factory, the cooling system is filled with anti-freeze fluid, which must remain in the system for the entire period of use of the fluid (2-3 years). If you decide to prepare the mixture yourself, the following proportions between antifreeze and water must be observed. It is recommended to use composition «611», whose chemical components have been specially selected for VW engines.
Recommended proportions: for a freezing point of -25°C: 2.5 liters of product to 3.3 liters of water; for a freezing point of -35°C: 2.75 liters of the agent in 2.75 liters of water. In the CIS countries, it is recommended to use TOSOL 40M.
