The need to remove or replace the sump may arise in the event of oil leakage through the gasket or in the event of a sump breakage (cracks, crumples) as a result of hitting an obstacle.
The sump can be changed while the engine is installed on the vehicle. Replacing the sump is very simple and begins with unscrewing the drain plug and draining the oil from the crankcase.
When installing the oil sump, remember the following.
Always install a new crankcase gasket, do not cover the seating surface of the crankcase and cylinder block with a fixing compound. The gasket must be completely dry during installation (otherwise it will squeeze out when tightened).
Pay attention to the correct position of the gasket and crankcase.
Tighten the fixing bolts gradually and «criss-cross».
If you have difficulty screwing in the hex head bolts in the back cover, you can replace them with roll head bolts (Nq parts 0147032 with spring washer and #0122265 and washer 056103615). Tighten hexagon head bolts to 20 Nm, roll head bolts to 8 Nm.
After tightening the bolts, screw in the drain plug (tightening torque 30 Nm). Fill the engine with 3.5 liters of oil if the filter has been replaced, or 3 liters if only the gasket and oil pan have been changed. If you do not have a measuring vessel, fill in such an amount of oil that its level reaches the min mark on the dipstick, then start the engine and add more oil so that the level reaches the max mark.
After replacing the crankcase gasket, it is necessary to make a test drive, which can identify the places of possible oil leaks. To do this, immediately after stopping the engine, raise the front of the car and inspect the area around the gasket from below.
