Insert a 0.65 mm thick shim into the bearing race, insert the outer race of the smaller bearing. Insert the secondary shaft and screw in the bearing cap bolts. Tightening torque 40 Nm. Fit the three-piece tool shown in fig. 354. Reset the indicator to zero and set the initial value to 1.0 mm.
Move the shaft from top to bottom and read the indicator (e.g. 0.30 mm). During the measurement, the shaft must not be rotated.
To obtain the desired value of the bearing preload, add 0.20 mm to the obtained value.
Example of determining the required shim thickness:
- inserted washer thickness: 0.65 mm
- measured value: +0.30 mm
- initial tightness: +0.20 mm
- desired washer thickness: = 1.15 mm
After the measurement, remove the shaft and the outer race of the bearing from the housing. Insert a washer of the selected thickness, insert the bearing race and install the output shaft and bearing cap. Gaskets are available in 16 thicknesses in 0.05 mm increments (0.65 to 1.40 mm).
