If the tie rod knuckle has been loosened, it is screwed on again. If it is difficult to tighten the power steering dust boot, the inside of the boot can be lubricated with oil. This will make it easier for her to fall into place.
The clamping bolts and nuts for the universal joint with the steering intermediate shaft cross are tightened to a tightening torque of 25 Nm. The auxiliary frame bolts on the front and rear are tightened with a tightening torque of 70 Nm and from this position are tightened an additional 90°.
The bolts on the rear bracket of the subframe are tightened with a tightening torque of 65 Nm.
The ball pins of the tie rod head are inserted into the steering arm and are tightened to 35 Nm using new self-locking nuts. After checking the toe-in, the locknuts of the tie rod heads must be tightened to a tightening torque of 50 Nm.
After installation, the hydraulic system is filled and the air is removed.
Features of installation and removal of the ZF type power steering mechanism
Removal and installation of the ZF type power steering mechanism is carried out in the same way as described above, however, the following differences should be noted.
The small power steering boot clips are only suitable for this power steering gear.
The ZF power steering seals have a larger diameter.
The large ZF type power steering clamps have a larger diameter.
Both tie rods have a larger diameter at the location of the power steering cups and therefore cannot be installed in a TRW type power steering gear.
To be able to distinguish the power steering mechanism, look at the steering mechanism housing close to its gear. In this place you can see the name of the company.
