With the help of the usual «homemade» a tachometer on a diesel engine will not achieve much, because. the diesel engine cannot produce the pulses required for this device on the ignition coil. To accurately control the idle speed, a special device is also needed. The driver, however, can vary the number of revolutions slightly at will when the engine is running with particularly strong shaking or noise.

Warm up the engine and turn off all electrical consumers.

Drown the cold start accelerator rod completely.

The adjusting screw regulates the system of levers for lifting the speed.

Turning the screw to the right increases the speed, turning the screw to the left decreases it.

The normal idle speed is 900 rpm. Deviations of 30 rpm in one direction or another are allowed.

The adjusting screw does not need to be tightened.

Checking the idling speed rise

If you pull the cold start accelerator link to the first detent position, the RPM should increase by about 60 rpm.

With the cold start accelerator link fully extended, the speed should rise to 1050+50 rpm.

If the speed deviates from this value, loosen the lock nut on the limit screw located on the right in the direction of travel.

Pull out the cold start accelerator rod completely.

Set the limit screw to 1050 rpm.

Tighten locknut again.

Auxiliary residual quantity adjustment

The last two screws are assumed not to normally be installed.

These three screws do not normally need to be turned.

The residual amount adjusting screw must not turn. If, nevertheless, he mistakenly regulated (this happens because on the injection pump of previous models «Golf» there was an idle screw in this place), then there are violations in the operation of the engine. Engine stays or at high rpm («freezes») and does not change speed or works only slowly (the screw is tightened). Or the engine does not respond well to the gas supply (screw out). In this case, get rid of it with the following auxiliary adjustment:

At «hung» turn the screw so far that the speed when the gas pedal is released returns to normal (check several times).

From this position, do another half turn back. Tighten locknut.

If the engine still does not obey the gas well, tighten the screw until then. until the number of revolutions is confident «hang up». Further actions - as described above.
