It is necessary to clean the ignition distributor cap inside and out at regular intervals to remove carbon residue, dust and moisture. It is also necessary to clean the distributor rotor.
For such cleaning, a cloth soaked in gasoline is used: at the same time, the distributor cap is checked for scratches.
The rotor of the ignition distributor is replaced with a new one with significant wear on the contacts (insert only branded rotor). Under no circumstances should the brass contacts be filed or additionally ground.
Keep the outer surfaces of all cables clean and free of moisture to ensure flawless current flow through the ignition system. At every opportunity, pull all lines from the ignition distributor, clean and check the connecting elements.
These lines must not be shortened to improve bad connectors. In these cases, it is necessary to replace the lines with new ones. New cables must only be ordered in accordance with the spare part numbers for the respective motor.
