Clutch installation

The clutch is installed in the reverse order of its removal. Particular attention should be paid to the following point.

If the old clutch is reused, the markings made during removal must be used, the new clutch can be screwed on in any way.



A centering mandrel is used to center the driven disk. This mandrel must be mated with the gearing of the driven disk and have a trunnion that mates with the guide in the crankshaft. An old gearbox clutch shaft can also be used.

Experienced mechanics are also able to align the driven disc «approximately».

Tighten the clutch bolts evenly and crosswise to a torque of 25 Nm. In this case, the flywheel must again be held. Firm workshops «Volkswagen» use for this purpose a tool to hold the ring gear of the flywheel.

The engine or gearbox is reinstalled and finally the clutch is checked.
