Cars have a load-bearing body. The body is an all-purpose, all-welded design and includes crumple zones at the front and rear with a safety cell in the center of the vehicle.
The hood, trunk lid, doors and front fenders are bolt-on and easily replaceable. When installing, the clearances must be observed, otherwise, for example, the door will knock or increased wind noise will be observed when driving. The gap must be at least parallel in its length, i.e. the distance between body parts must be maintained constant along the entire length of the gap.
In the production process, the car body is galvanized, and the bottom is treated with an anti-corrosion coating. Bumpers and wheel arch liners are made of plastic for strength and durability.
Almost all components and parts of body equipment can be installed and removed using a common set of tools. During disassembly and reassembly, special precautions must be taken to avoid serious damage to the seals and the factory applied anti-corrosion coating.
Warning: If you do not have sufficient experience, or there is no suitable place to perform any of the work described in this manual, it is recommended that repairs be carried out by a Volkswagen dealer's car service or a specialized car workshop.
Before starting work on the instrument panel, doors or any electrical devices, remove the ground wire from the battery.
Safety measures during welding
Be sure to remove the battery when carrying out welding or other work involving strong sparking near the location of the battery.
It is forbidden to carry out welding and hard and soft soldering of the parts of the filled air conditioner. This also applies to those elements of the car, the welding of which can cause heating of the parts of the air conditioner. When carrying out repair and painting work in the drying chamber or in the zone of its heating, the temperature should not exceed +80°.
ANTI-THEFT CODE RECEIVER
Warning: Before disconnecting the ground wire from the battery, make sure you know the correct decoding code for the receiver, which restores its functionality. If, after connecting the ground wire, you enter the wrong code, the receiver will turn off.
BODY GROUND CONNECTION
Warning: To maintain a good ground connection and prevent corrosion damage, do not disconnect the wires from the body. Disconnect wires only from the battery, engine or transmission.
Clean all connections down to metal before connecting ground wires or busbars. Make sure that the bolted connections to the ground are securely tightened.
