Using a wrench to rotate the timing belt tensioner on the eccentric on the 1.6-I engine
- 1 - installation mark;
- 2 - pointer
Install and tension the toothed belt on a cold engine.
Order of execution
1. Install the toothed belt on the crankshaft and water pump pulleys.
Warning: When reinstalling the toothed belt, install it so that the arrow on the belt, marked before removing the belt, matches the direction of rotation of the engine pulleys. If the toothed belt rotates in the opposite direction after installation, cracks in the belt and engine failure may occur.
2. Check that the camshaft and crankshaft pulley marks are aligned with the pointers.
3. Reinstall and bolt the lower toothed belt guard.
4. Install the crankshaft pulley and secure it with bolts, tightening them to a torque of 25 Nm. Keep in mind that the pulley is installed in only one position.
5. Slide the toothed belt onto the camshaft pulley.

6. Check the mounting position of the tension roller. Locking foot (arrow) must be located in a recess in the cylinder head. Otherwise, tighten the tension roller holder in the appropriate direction.
7. With a wrench, turn the tension roller so that the pointer is aligned with the alignment mark (see fig. Using a wrench to rotate the timing belt tensioner on the eccentric on the 1.6-I engine). In this position, tighten the tensioner roller nut to 20 Nm.
8. At the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine crankshaft clockwise two full turns and check that all alignment marks are aligned with the pointers. Check that the alignment mark of the toothed belt tensioner is aligned with the pointer.

9. Remove the tension roller retainer and unscrew the set screw. The pressure piston and tensioner will automatically tension the toothed belt.
All engines
10. Turn the engine crankshaft two full turns clockwise and check that all alignment marks are aligned with the pointers. Otherwise remove a gear belt and make its repeated installation.
11. Establish the top casing of a gear belt.
12. Tighten the bolts securing the holder of the right support to the engine to 45 Nm.
13. Using new bolts, attach the holder to the right support and body and tighten the bolts to the required torque:
- support to the body: 40 Nm + tighten by 90°;
- support to the engine: 60 Nm + tighten by 90°.
14. Remove the fixture supporting the engine.
15. Install the V-belt tensioner and secure it with the bolt, tightening it to 25 Nm.
16. install the V-belt.
17. Reinstall the expansion tank and the power steering reservoir.
