Warning: When installing new parts according to the spare parts catalog, be sure to match the pressure plate and clutch plate with the letter index of the engine and engine number.
Order of execution
1. When installing a new clutch disc or clutch pressure plate, remove the anti-corrosion protection from them.
2. When installing the clutch disc, make sure that even small amounts of oil do not get on its friction linings, therefore, before installing the clutch disc, wipe the mating surface of the flywheel and the surface of the pressure plate with a clean rag, and install the clutch disc with clean hands.
3. Install pressure plate with steel plate on crankshaft. The mounting position of the steel plate must be such that the hole in the plate aligns with the protrusion (indicated by an arrow).
4. Screw in the pressure plate mounting bolts and tighten them to a torque of 60 Nm, then tighten them by an angle of 90°. Due to the fact that bolts stretch, only new bolts should be used during installation.
5. Install a shut-off disk in the pressure disk (IN) and secure it with a retaining ring (A).
6. Lubricate the splines in the clutch disc hub with a thin layer of special grease based on molybdenum disulphide.
7. Check that the centering pins are firmly fixed to the flywheel. Install the clutch disc and flywheel on the pressure plate. There are dowel pins for centering the flywheel. The flywheel dowel pins must align with the appropriate holes. You can also use the special tool VW 3178 to center the flywheel.
8. After centering the flywheel, gradually and diagonally tighten the flywheel mounting bolts to 20 Nm.
9. If used, remove special centering tool VW 3178.
10. Install the gearbox.
