Service position
To remove the engine or radiator, the front cross member must be set to the so-called service position. In this case, the cross member moves forward.
1. Remove the front bumper.
2. Release from fastenings a cable of a drive of the lock of a cowl.
3. Remove, unscrewing the fastening bolts, a sound signal 4 on the right side of the cross member and remove it together with the bracket (see illustration).

4. Vehicles with a turbocharged diesel engine. Disconnect the coupling 7 and disconnect the high pressure hose 8 from the charge air cooling radiator (see arrow in illustration).
5. Unscrew the bolts 5 on the left and right sides of the crossbar and screw the guide pins 6 into the holes (see illustration 41.3).
6. Unscrew bolts 2 and 3 on the upper part of the front cross member I (see illustration 41.3).
7. Put the front cross member on the guide pins 6, pushing it about 10 cm forward (see illustration).
Normal installation
8. Fasten the cross member of the front end by moving it on the guide pins to the longitudinal beam.
9. Screw in bolts 2 and 3 and tighten them with 8 Nm (see illustration 41.3).
10. Unscrew the guide pins and screw in the remaining fastening bolts 5, the tightening torque of which is 60 Nm.
11. Cars with a turbocharged diesel engine. Connect air ducts to charge air cooling radiator.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Make sure that hoses and pipelines are not pinched or kinked anywhere.
12. Check the position of the headlights and, if necessary, correct their tilt (work is done in the workshop).
Touran cars
The procedure for setting the front cross member to the service position is the same for Touran vehicles as for Golf vehicles. The difference is that instead of the right sound signal, the left one must be removed (see illustration 41.0).
