To start a gasoline engine, two basic conditions must be met: the air-fuel mixture must enter the cylinders, and there must be an ignition spark on the candles. Therefore, first of all, you should check if there is a fuel supply. How to proceed in this case is indicated in the chapters «Fuel system» and «Ignition system».
Malfunctions in the engine control electronics can only be determined using special instrumentation.
For vehicles with a diesel engine, the fuel system and the preheating system should be checked.
The engine starts poorly or does not start at all
Fuse defective
Check fuse:
- fuel pump with electric drive;
- electronic injection system;
- preheating systems.
Gas engine. Faulty ignition system
Have the ignition system checked by a workshop.
Faulty engine control unit
Check the engine control unit in the workshop.
Faulty, contaminated fuel system or clogged fuel line
Check fuel pump and lines
Starter turns too slowly
Charge the battery. Check the power supply to the starter. Clean contacts.
The anti-theft system prevents the engine from starting
Remove the key from the ignition switch, turn it over and reinsert it. When turning the key in the ignition switch, hold the key by the outer edge of the handle. Press the remote control button while in the passenger compartment and hold the remote control near the signal reception antenna. Remove the key from the key fob and use the spare key. Replace the batteries in the remote control. Contact the workshop to read the fault codes registered by the self-diagnosis system.
Defective cylinder head gasket
Replace gasket.
