- electric flashlight and mirror;
- calipers.
Attention! Due to dust particles, which are usually more on the roadway on the passenger side than on the driver's side, the wear on the brake pads on the passenger side is somewhat greater. Therefore, it is recommended to check the residual thickness of these pads.
Attention! There is a risk of injury when the vehicle is jacked up or placed on jack stands. Before starting work, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the safety precautions in chapter «car jacking».
1. Mark with paint the position and direction of rotation of the wheel on the hub.
A balanced wheel can be set to its original position.
2. Remove the wheel bolts before jacking up the vehicle and placing it on jack stands.
3. Place the vehicle on jack stands and remove the wheels.
Attention! When checking the thickness of the brake pads, make sure they are not contaminated with brake fluid or oil. Replace these brake pads immediately.

4. Check the thickness with a caliper «A» inner and outer brake pads excluding metal support (see illustration).
The wear limit is considered reached if the thickness «A» brake pads without a metal base is 2 mm. In this case, the pads must be replaced (see illustration 22.4).
5. Establish wheels, being guided by labels put before removal of wheels.
6. Screw in wheel bolts and lower the car.
7. Tighten the wheel bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 120 Nm.
Attention! If you follow the rule of thumb, then 1 mm of brake pad lining corresponds to at least 1000 km of run. This rule can be applied when operating the car in adverse conditions.

8. Check thickness «A» external brake pads through the inspection hole (see arrow in illustration) in the rim, illuminating the block with a lantern if necessary. The wheel does not need to be removed. If equipped, remove the wheel cover.
9. Examine the inner brake pad with a mirror, illuminating the pad with a flashlight.
The wear limit is considered to have been reached if the thickness of the rear brake pads without a metal base is 2 mm.
