Materials Needed: A replacement air filter element.
Attention! The air filter mounting bolts are self-locking. They must not be unscrewed or tightened with an electric wrench. Otherwise, the threads on the inlet pipe or on the bottom of the filter housing may be damaged. Bolts should be unscrewed and tightened by hand. Bolt tightening torque 3 Nm.
Vehicles with 1.4 liter BCA/BKG/BLN petrol engine
Removing
1. Remove the top engine protection cover and place it upside down on a soft pad to avoid scratches, see the relevant chapter.
2. Disconnect the air filter housing from the top cover of the engine by unscrewing the mounting bolts (see arrows in illustration).
3. Lift the top (cover) 1 filter and remove the cartridge 2 from the housing (see illustration).
4. Wipe the inside of the air filter housing.
Installation
5. Insert a new filter element into the filter housing.
6. Attach the air filter housing to the engine cover by screwing in the bolts and hand-tightening them to 3 Nm.
7. Reinstall the engine top cover, see relevant chapter.
Vehicles with 1.6 liter FSI petrol engine BAG/BLF/BLP
Removing
8. Remove the upper engine protection cover and place it upside down on a soft pad to avoid scratches, see the relevant chapter.
9. Disconnect the air filter housing 2 from the top cover 1 of the engine by unscrewing the mounting bolts (see arrows in illustration).
10. Lift the top of the filter and remove the replaceable filter element 2 from the housing (see illustration 11.3).
11. Wipe the inside of the air filter housing.
Installation
12. Insert a new filter element into the filter housing.
13. Fix the air filter housing to the engine cover by screwing in the bolts and tighten them by hand with a force of 3 Nm.
14. Reinstall the engine top cover, see relevant chapter.
Vehicles with 1.6 liter BGU/BSE/BSF petrol engines
2.0 liter diesel vehicles AXW/BLR/BLX/BLY
2.0 liter BDK diesel vehicles (2-valve)
Removing
15. Remove the bolts (see arrows in illustration) and remove the air filter cover.
16. Unscrew the bolt 1 of the clamp 2 and remove the replaceable filter element 4 (see illustration).
17. Wipe filter housing 5 from the inside (see illustration 11.16).
Installation
18. Insert a new filter element into the filter housing.
19. Install the clamp and close the filter cover.
The tightening torque of the clamp bolt is 2 Nm, and the cover bolts are 3 Nm.
Cars with a 2.0 liter AXX petrol engine with a power of 147 kW (200 hp.)
Removing
20. Remove the upper protective cover of the engine and place it upside down on a soft pad to avoid scratches, see the relevant chapter.
21. Disconnect the air filter housing from the engine top cover by unscrewing the mounting bolts (see arrows in illustration).
22. Remove the replacement filter element.
23. Wipe the inside of the filter housing.
Installation
24. Insert a new filter element into the filter housing.
25. Fasten the air filter housing to the engine cover by screwing in the bolts and tightening them by hand with a force of 3 Nm.
26. Reinstall the engine top cover, see relevant chapter.
1.9 liter diesel vehicles BRU/A VQ/BJB/BKC/BLS
Vehicles with 2.0 liter AZV/BKD diesel engine (4 valve)
Removing
27. Remove the bolts (see arrows in illustration) and remove the filter cover.
28. Remove the filter element.
29. Wipe the inside of the filter housing.
Installation
30. Insert a new filter element into the filter housing.
31. Replace the filter cover and fasten it with bolts with a tightening torque of 9 Nm.
