All vehicles except vehicles with 1.4-/1.6-litre FSI engine.
Examination
1. Remove the thermostat.
2. Measure your height «A» thermostat (see illustration).
3. Heat up the thermostat by immersing it in a container of water. In this case, the thermostat should not touch the walls of the container and should be completely immersed in water. Check the water temperature and, accordingly, the beginning of the opening of the thermostat with a thermometer (see illustration).
When water is heated to a temperature of +100°C, the length of the thermostat «b» must be longer than «A» about 7 mm.
Thus, the opening stroke of the thermostat must be at least 7 mm (see illustration 4.2).
Attention! For 2.0 liter FSI engines, a thermostat opening stroke of 7 mm is achieved after at least 10 minutes in boiling coolant and on-board voltage.
4. Replace thermostat.
