Design and specifications

Depending on the configuration, mechanical steering with a shock absorber or power steering was installed on cars. Steering with rack and pinion and safety steering column. The steering gear is mounted on the front end shield of the body. The steering drive consists of two horizontal rods and swing arms of the telescopic struts of the front suspension.

Mechanical steering:

• for cars with manual gearbox: 20.6:1;
• for cars with automatic gearbox: 20.8:1;
• power steering: 17.2:1.

• with body «sedan»: 10,70;
• with body «hatchback» and «station wagon»: 10,85.

Vehicles with automatic gearbox:

• with body «sedan»: 11,10;
• with body «hatchback» and «station wagon»: 11,25.

Power steering

Power steering pump vane type. It is driven by a V-belt from the crankshaft pulley.

Capacity of the hydraulic steering system, l: 6.5.

Discharge pressure of hydraulic booster pump, kg/cm²: 68-82.

Dimensions of the power steering pump drive belt, mm:

• vehicles with 4-cylinder engines: 9.5x800;
• vehicles with 5-cylinder engines: 12.5x992.

Belt brand and type: Gates 64 70 MC or Venuflex AV 13985.

The normal deflection of the belt when pressing with the thumb on the middle of the branch between the pulleys should be 10 mm.
