Removing
Loosen the screws securing the instrument panel lower trim.
On vehicles with an EP engine with manual carburetor choke control, remove the choke control knob.
Remove the instrument panel lower trim.
Slide the clutch towards the passenger compartment.
Hang the front of the car.
In the engine compartment, unscrew the steering shaft clamp bolt and disconnect the steering shaft from the drive gear shaft.
Loosen the bolt securing the steering damper to the steering gear housing.
Disconnect the tie rods from the steering gear.
Unscrew the nut and bolt securing the steering gear housing to the bulkhead shield.
Remove steering gear.
Installation
The steering mechanism is installed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- tighten the nuts of the steering rod studs to the steering gear housing only after lowering the vehicle to the floor;
- after tightening the steering shaft clamp bolt, lubricate the clutch with liquid soap and put it in place;
- replace all self-locking nuts and bolts with new ones;
- observe the tightening torques of the screwed connections.
