Removing
Remove the instrument panel lower trim.
Remove the lower steering shaft together with the flexible coupling.
Clamp off the drain hose 1 of the hydraulic system between the spool and reservoir of the hydraulic booster pump.
Unscrew union of high-pressure hose 2 from steering gear housing.
Remove clutch.
Unscrew the drain hose fitting from inside the passenger compartment.
Loosen the bolt securing the steering gear to the left wheel housing.
Unscrew the nuts from the mounting studs and disconnect the steering rods from the steering gear.
Turn the wheels all the way to the left.
Unscrew the nut and bolt securing the steering gear housing to the bulkhead shield.
Turn the wheels to the right and remove the steering gear, bringing it out between the left suspension arm and the wheel housing.
Installation
Installation of the steering mechanism is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- fix the steering mechanism to the front end shield of the body and the wheel casing without tension;
- when connecting the drain hose, install new sealing rings;
- install the lower steering shaft with an elastic coupling by sliding the shaft all the way onto the drive gear shaft;
- bring the oil level in the power steering pump reservoir to normal;
- bleed air from the power steering system.
