Removing
Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the horn switch trim by hand.
Remove the horn switch buttons with a screwdriver.
Disconnect the wires from the horn switch terminals.
Loosen the steering wheel nut.
Remove steering wheel.
Remove the horn switch contact ring.
Loosen the three screws securing the steering column cover.
Remove the turn signal and headlight switch.
Remove the wiper switch.
Remove the turn signal and headlight switches.
Remove the wiper switch.
Loosen the screws securing the instrument panel lower trim.
On vehicles with a manual choke EP engine, remove the choke control knob.
Remove the shim towards the bottom.
Remove spring and ring.
Loosen the hexagon socket head screw securing the anti-theft device housing.
Punch through the bursting screw of the anti-theft device housing.
Remove the anti-theft device housing.
Remove support ring.
Loosen the two bolts securing the steering shaft tube.
Slide the clutch towards the passenger compartment.
Working from the engine compartment, unscrew the steering shaft clamp bolt.
Remove steering shaft.
Installation
Assemble the steering shaft by doing the following:
- slide the body of the anti-theft device onto the steering shaft tube as far as it will go;
- screw in and tighten the hexagonal socket screw securing the body of the anti-theft device;
- install the support ring on the steering shaft;
- insert the steering shaft into the pipe as far as it will go;
- put on the contact ring as far as it will go;
- install the spring and a new mounting washer;
- install the assembled steering shaft on the car.
Further operations for installing the steering shaft are carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- after tightening the steering shaft clamp bolt, lubricate the clutch with liquid soap and install it in place;
- replace all self-locking nuts and bolts with new ones;
- observe the tightening torques of the screwed connections.
