Note. When disassembling, marks are applied to the parts that are suitable for further use, so that during assembly they can be installed in their original places and in their previous position.
Remove spark plugs.
Remove cylinder head cover.
Remove the camshaft drive belt front cover.
Loosen the water pump mounting bolts, loosen the toothed belt.
Remove the camshaft drive belt.
Remove the camshaft sprocket.
Remove rear toothed belt cover.
Loosen the cylinder head bolts in the correct order.
Remove cylinder head with gasket.
Block the crankshaft pulley with the VW 2084 lock and unscrew the bolt securing the pulley to the crankshaft.
Remove water pump.
Remove oil sump.
Remove the oil pick-up and its connection to the oil pump.
Remove the front cover of the cylinder block together with the oil pump.
Loosen the connecting rod nuts and remove the connecting rod caps.
Remove the pistons with connecting rods through the cylinders, remove the connecting rod bearing shells.
Remove flywheel.
Remove the holder together with the crankshaft rear oil seal.
Unscrew the bolts securing the main bearing caps and remove the caps together with the lower shells.
Remove the crankshaft from the bearing seats, and then the upper liners.
Remove thermostat housing and thermostat.
Separate the connecting rods from the pistons by removing the circlips and connecting rod pins.
Details of the crank mechanism:
1 - flywheel;
2 - gear ring of the flywheel;
3 - needle bearing;
4 - crankshaft;
5 - connecting rod;
6 - piston;
7 - piston rings;
8 - toothed pulley of the crankshaft;
9 - crankshaft pulley.
Connecting rod markings:
A - connecting rod number;
B - a tide on the connecting rod cover, which should be turned towards the camshaft drive.
Installation of pistons with connecting rods in cylinders:
1 - tide on the connecting rod head;
2 - the position of the connecting rod bearing shells. The arrow on the piston crown must point towards the camshaft drive
