Design and specifications

The hydromechanical gearbox consists of an automatic three-speed gearbox and a torque converter. It is integrated with the differential and final drive and is located behind the engine. Gear shifting is performed by a selector lever on the floor of the body. The selector lever has six positions: «R» - parking; «R» - reverse; «N» — neutral; «D» - automatic switching of I, II and III gears; «2» - automatic switching of I and II gears; «1» — the inclusion of only 1st gear.

The engine can only be started if the selector lever is in position «N» or «R». The oil lines of the torque converter and gearbox are disconnected.

Cars with 4-cylinder engines:

• YN, WV, YP: 089 CAB;
• DS: 089 KAD;
• DT: CH 089;

Cars with 5-cylinder engines:

• WN (until October 1982): 087 RR;
• WN (since October 1982): 087 RBA.

Marking:

• KP type 089: M;
• KP type 087: K.

Control dimensions of the bearing sleeve:

• inner diameter, no more than, mm: 34.12;
• radial runout, no more than, mm: 0.03.

Torque converter oil: GL5 hypoid oil; SAE 90; MILL 2105 B.

Refueling capacities, l:

• KP type 089: 0.75;
• Gearbox type 087: 1.00.
