Throttle cable adjustment
As a result of this adjustment, the throttle should be in the closed position with the accelerator pedal released, and the gearshift control should be in the stop position.
Warm up the engine to operating temperature (before opening the air damper on cars with carburetor engines).
Leave the engine to idle.
Loosen the throttle cable adjustment sleeve. On vehicles with carburetor engines, move the gearshift lever to the stop. On fuel-injected vehicles, move the intermediate shift lever as far as it will go.
On vehicles with fuel injection engines, disconnect the throttle control tie rods.
On vehicles with carbureted engines, loosen the throttle control cable.
Adjust the length of the tie rods or throttle cable so that when the throttle is closed, the shift control lever or intermediate shift control lever is in the stop position and does not have much free play.
Adjust the length of the throttle control cable so that the free play of the lever is selected.
Checking Throttle Cable Adjustment
With a warm engine idling, the length of the throttle control cable should only allow for free play in the shift control mechanism.
Press the accelerator pedal to the intermediate stop (position «full throttle» pedals) and check throttle position.
Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and check how much the length of the throttle control cable will increase. On cars with carbureted engines, the cable extension is measured at the point where the cable is attached to the throttle control lever and should not exceed 8 mm. On cars with a fuel injection engine, it is measured at the intermediate throttle control rod and should not exceed 10.5 mm.
Shift Control Adjustment
Set selector lever to position «R».
Loosen the selector cable retaining nut on the selector lever.
Pull the shift control lever to the stop corresponding to the position «R» selector lever.
Tighten the clamping nut after tightening the cable.
Check the correct gear shifting according to the positions of the selector lever.
2nd gear band brake adjustment
Make sure the automatic transmission is in a perfectly horizontal position.
Loosen the locknut and brake adjusting bolt.
Apply sealant to the thread of the adjusting bolt and tighten it to 1.0 kgf·m.
Unscrew the bolt again and tighten it with a torque of 0.5 kgf·m.
Loosen the adjusting screw exactly 2½ turns and tighten the locknut.
