Before dismantling, remove center console extension. Different version of the handbrake lever for cars with rear disc and shoe brakes.

Vehicles with disc rear brakes
Due to the automatic adjustment of the rear wheel brakes, adjustment of the hand brake is usually not required. Adjustment is only necessary when replacing the handbrake cable, brake calipers, brake linings and brake discs.
Raise the car, see section «Vehicle lifting».
Remove the rear section of the center console.
Release the handbrake.
Release locknut.
Loosen the handbrake cable adjusting nuts so that the brake levers rest against the stops.
Tighten the adjusting nuts until the brake levers move away from the stop (arrow). In this case, the maximum distance between the levers and stops should be 1.5 mm. When tightening the adjusting nuts, hold the cable threads with a screwdriver.
Squeeze out the hand brake, and then release it again.
Check if both wheels turn freely.
Tighten locknut.
Lower the vehicle, see section «Vehicle lifting».
Install the rear of the center console.
Cars with shoe brakes
Thanks to automatic brake pad adjustment, handbrake adjustment is only required when replacing the handbrake lever or cable.
Remove the rear section of the center console.
Raise the car, see section «Vehicle lifting».
Release the handbrake.
Loosen the handbrake cable adjusting nut as far as possible. Strongly depress the brake pedal 1 time.
Squeeze the handbrake lever 4 teeth.
Tighten the adjusting nut so that it is difficult to turn both wheels by hand.
Release the handbrake lever and check that both wheels turn freely.
Lock the adjusting nuts and lower the vehicle.
Install the rear of the center console.
