Removing
Attention: Some instructions for performing work steps are given in the sections «Removal and installation of the bearing of a nave of a back wheel» and «Wheel bearing clearance adjustment», so these sections should also be read.
Loosen the wheel bolts, raise the car, remove the wheel.
Adjust brake. To do this, press the self-adjusting brake wedge up to the stop through the threaded hole in the brake drum.
Press off protective cap, see chapter «rear axle».
Pull out the cotter pin, remove the castle washer, unscrew the nut, remove the pressure washer.
Remove outer wheel bearing.
Attention: The bearing may fall out, so put a clean cloth under it. Lubricate the wheel bearing with bearing grease (lithium).
Remove brake drum. If required, remove the brake drum from the axle stub with a universal puller.
Pull out the o-ring and inner wheel bearing if it has not come off with the brake drum.
Installation
Clean the brake drum thoroughly. Check for wear, damage, maintaining the specified dimensions, for damage to the threads for the wheel bolts, perfect condition of the braking surfaces. Fill the hub with universal grease.
Lubricate the inner wheel bearing with bearing grease and insert into the brake drum. It is easy to lubricate the edges of the sealing ring and drive it in with cross blows of a rubber hammer.
Put on the brake drum.
Lubricate the outer wheel bearing and slide it onto the axle trunnion.
Install thrust washer and tighten hex nut.
Adjust the axial clearance of the wheel bearing, see chapter «rear axle».
Insert the lock washer so that the cotter pin can be installed. Use a new cotter pin, bend the ends of the cotter pin.
Drive the protective cap back into place see chapter «rear axle».
Screw on the rear wheel, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 110 Nm.
Depress the brake pedal several times to bring the brake pads into working position.
