Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years, possibly in the spring.
A brake fluid replacement workshop uses a device to fill the system and remove air from it. The amount of replacement fluid per bleed valve is 500 cm33.
Attention: This is the operating sequence for a vehicle without ABS. For a description of the operations for vehicles with ABS, see «Removal of air from the brake system».
Pay attention to the precautions for handling brake fluid, see below.
Using a suction container, suck out the brake fluid from the expansion tank, leaving a liquid layer of approximately 10 mm at the bottom of the tank.
Attention: Do not suck out all the fluid from the reservoir, otherwise air will enter the brake system.
Fill the expansion tank with new brake fluid up to the mark «MAX».
On the right rear disc brake caliper, put a clean transparent hose on the bleeder valve and insert it into a suitable container.
Open the bleed valve. Pressing and releasing the brake pedal about 10 times, pump out the old brake fluid from the system.
Close the bleed valve and fill the reservoir with new brake fluid.
In the same way, pump out the old brake fluid from other calipers.
Attention: The drained brake fluid must in any case be clean and free of air bubbles.
Check the pressure and free travel of the brake pedal. Free play should be no more than 1/3 of the total pedal travel.
Hand over the old brake fluid at a special point for the reception of waste fuels and lubricants.
