Precautions when working with an inflatable airbag

The airbag for the driver is located in the steering wheel, and for the passenger next to the driver, in the instrument panel on the right. In the event of a strong frontal collision, the airbag opens: at the signal of the control unit, a small explosive charge ignites in the pillow, the gases formed during the explosion fill the air bag in a matter of milliseconds. This time is enough to dampen the body rushing forward in a collision. After a few seconds, the airbag collapses again as the gases escape through the evacuation holes. An airbag for the passenger next to the driver is available as an option.

The parts of the airbag cannot be repaired; in the event of a malfunction, it must always be replaced as a complete set. Since the airbag assembly contains an explosive, it must be kept locked or properly supervised. The airbag assembly must be decommissioned prior to disposal (workshop work).

Do not treat the cushion assembly with lubricants, cleaners or other similar products.

The cushion assembly must not be exposed to temperatures above 100°C even for a short time.

Remove the airbag assembly only when the ground wire is disconnected (-) battery and with the ignition off (ignition key in position «0»).
