The thermal switch must be checked if the fan does not turn on when the engine is hot. Prerequisite for checking: thermostat, radiator and cooling system cap are in order.
The thermal switch for the electric fan is located at the bottom left of the radiator. The thermal switch has 2 switching stages. At elevated temperatures, it turns on the fan at an increased speed, see table.
Check fuse no. 19, replace if necessary.
Check if the radiator is hot at all in the area of the thermal switch.
Pull out the thermoswitch plug, connect the terminals of the three wires to the thermoswitch with a short control wire. On the plug of the supply cable, first connect the terminal + (plus) with terminal 1, then with terminal 2. If the fan rotates in both cases, replace the thermal switch.
If the fan does not rotate, or rotates only in one case, then check the electrical wires in accordance with the electrical diagram. Then check the connections for contact quality and secure fastening. If necessary, replace the fan motor.
Thermal switch tightening torque: 25 Nm.
Check the function of the new thermal switch. Warm up the engine and let it idle until the fan turns on.
