Diesel engines other than 90/110 hp gas turbine supercharged engine
Remove upper toothed belt cover.
Hit the timing belt with a rubber mallet between the camshaft and injection pump gears.
Turning the handle of the VW 210 control device, loosen the spring.
Install the control device between the gears of the camshaft and the injection pump so that the toothed belt is located between the skids and the sensor of the control device.
Using the handle, set the value 12-13 on the scale of the control device. From the side of the sensor, a steel tongue protrudes from the control device, on which a white horizontal line is applied. This horizontal line should now be covered by the edge of the monitor. If not, adjust toothed belt tension.
Adjustment
Install the control device.
By turning the handle to the right, set the prescribed value 12-13 on the scale of the control device.
Rotate the tensioning roller until the white horizontal line on the steel tongue lines up with the edge of the instrument housing.
Attention: This requires a wrench, e.g. MATRA-Vww HAZET 2587.
Tighten the tensioning roller nut to 45 Nm.
Rotate the crankshaft one turn and repeat the measurement, repeat the adjustment if necessary.
Install the upper toothed belt cover.
Check the start of fuel delivery by the high pressure fuel pump, see below.
Attention: If the device for checking and adjusting is missing (abroad, accident on the way), timing belt tension can be temporarily adjusted. Namely, it is necessary to tighten the toothed belt so that it can be turned out by no more than 90°with the help of the thumb and forefinger. The tension of the toothed belt should then be checked as soon as possible using a tester. Until such a check, high engine speeds must be avoided.
